What makes The Kindness Keepsake different to other letters?
The Kindness Keepsake was created to honour a significant moment in childhood, not simply to tell your child that Santa isn't real.Unlike a generic printable letter designed to be read once, our letter is part of a keepsake experience created to make the moment memorable and meaningful. It helps your child understand that discovering the truth about Santa is also the beginning of a new role and Christmas tradition, one centred around kindness, generosity and giving. It is not simply a letter to read and put away. It is a keepsake to treasure and return to each Christmas, reminding your child of the moment one tradition changed and another began.
Can I read the letter before giving it to my child?
Yes. The Kindness Keepsake includes a black and white copy of the letter for you to read beforehand, along with a parent information guide to help you feel prepared.
What age is the letter suitable for?
There is no perfect age to discover the truth about Santa. Every child is different, and you know your child best. The letter has been thoughtfully written to help you share the truth in a gentle, positive and meaningful way when you feel the time is right.
When is the right time to tell your child Santa isn't real?
There isn't one perfect age or one right way to have the conversation. Every child is different.Often, the best guide is your child. If they're asking thoughtful questions, noticing inconsistencies or beginning to work things out for themselves, they may be ready for a more honest conversation. You don't need to rush the moment, and you don't need to feel that you're taking something away from them.Sometimes, discovering the truth about Santa simply means they're ready to understand Christmas in a new way.
When should I give my child the letter?
We recommend sharing the letter sometime leading into the festive season, but there is no set date. Trust your instincts and choose a time that feels right for you.
How does the letter explain that Santa is not real?
The letter gently shares the truth while exploring the story of St Nicholas and how the tradition of Santa has evolved. It then helps children discover that the true spirit of Christmas lives in the kindness, generosity and giving we share with one another.
What if my child already knows or suspects that Santa is not real?
That's okay. The letter can still provide a meaningful way to mark this new stage and introduce your child to the true spirit of Christmas. Rather than it simply being the moment they discover the truth, it can become the beginning of a new family tradition centred around kindness, generosity and the magic of giving.
What should my child do if other family members or friends still believes in Santa?
We encourage children to keep the magic of Santa alive for those who still believe. If a sibling or friend still believes in Santa, we encourage new members to let others enjoy their own Christmas experience, allowing them the time to discover the truth when they are ready.Becoming a member of The Kindness Movement means understanding that everyone discovers the true spirit of Christmas in their own time.
What if my child feels sad or disappointed when they discover the truth about Santa?
They might, and that's completely okay. Discovering that Santa isn't quite what they once believed can bring up feelings of sadness, surprise or disappointment. We encourage you to give your child space to feel whatever they feel, while reassuring them that the things that make Christmas special haven't disappeared. The excitement, generosity, joy of giving and family traditions can all continue. In fact, this can become the beginning of something new and fun. A moment in time when your child is now ready to take on a different role in the Christmas tradition and begin creating some of that magic for others.
