Our Story

I am a mum of 3 children. I love sharing the magic of Christmas with them. We go to a few of the local pageants and carols, we go light looking, we read Christmas books every night of December, we have kindness elves visit… and the list goes on. Amongst the magic, I am always conscious of directing the focus away from simply receiving at Christmas, to also practicing showing kindness and generosity towards others.

When my son reached the age where he started to hear whispers that Santa wasn’t real, he seemed disappointed and upset. I knew the time had come for me to share the truth with him. I knew that believing in Santa had taught him some valuable life lessons, and I wanted him to learn from those and take that magic and pay it forward. This was the start of The Kindness Movement. Whilst the act of kindness has always existed, the movement itself has not. I wanted that to change. I wanted to bring people collectively together, united in their cause to spread joy, love and generosity. I wanted the movement to be one of positivity that encouraged its members to share the true spirit of Christmas that was taught to them through the story of Santa. I wanted to inspire the next generation to be the movers and shakers in the world, who always look for opportunities to be kind.

The Kindness Movement does not exist to provide a soft-landing stone for children to learn the truth about Santa. It is here to encourage authentic actions, to bring about real change. It encourages new family traditions that draw on the true spirit of Christmas. And it is not just for our children to be part of, we encourage families to get on board with it just as my family have done.

So join us today, and you too can be part of The Kindness Movement.

Why support the Koalas?

Two days before Christmas a man pulled over across from my house to collect gum leaves. I could see from the advertising on his van that he was part of a wildlife organisation that helped rescue koalas. After watching with great sadness at the destruction caused to habitat and native wildlife during the 2018 fires, I knew charities such as these needed all the help they could get. I grabbed some money to donate to him. We got chatting about some of the things that the non for-profit organisation does for the native wildlife in our area. I found myself feeling immensely grateful to this man who makes himself available 24/7 every day of the year to take wildlife rescue calls, opens his home to care for injured animals and in his “spare” time, volunteers at the local fire brigade. I walked away wondering what more I could do to help than my one-off donation.

I realised then that I could use The Kindness Movement for more than just encouraging others to spread kindness in their community. I could lead by example and start that ripple effect immediately myself. I committed to raising awareness and money by donating $5 from every Membership Pack sale directly to help the foundation, to support them to continue their much-needed work.

If you would like to know more about why our Koalas are in need of our help now more than ever, please take a moment to visit our page sharing their plight. I am grateful to play a small role in helping to support those on the front line giving their time for some of our most vulnerable wildlife.

 Margaret Mead once said…

“Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has”.

 I couldn’t agree more.

We acknowledge the Ramindjeri and Ngarrindjeri people as the traditional custodians of the land and surrounding waters where we love and work. We acknowledge their deep connection to country and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
